The short version
Squawk puts all your travel information in one place. Use it for yourself, be decent to other people, and treat flight times as helpful information, not a promise: always check with your airline. Paid plans are billed by Apple and you can cancel them in Settings at any time.
These terms are an agreement between you and Squawk (“we”, “us”) for the Squawk iPhone app, this website (thesquawkapp.com) and the pages that shared links open there. By using Squawk you accept them. The privacy policy explains what we do with your data.
Your licence to use Squawk
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the Squawk app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, as long as you keep to these terms.
If you got Squawk from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the app itself. Where it and these terms disagree about your licence to the app, Apple's agreement wins. Apple is not a party to these terms; see Apple below.
Squawk is in beta. Test builds come through Apple's TestFlight, change often, may have bugs, and stop working after the period TestFlight allows unless you update them.
Your account
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. An account is for one person. Keep access to your email secure, because whoever can read it can sign in as you. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- Give a real email address you control, and a name and handle that don't pretend to be someone else.
- Handles are first come, first served. We may reclaim one that impersonates a person, airline or brand, or that is offensive.
- You must be at least 13 to use Squawk, and old enough where you live to agree to these terms or have a parent or guardian agree for you.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account.
Plans, payment and cancelling
Squawk Free costs nothing. Squawk Plus, Squawk Pro and Family Pro are paid plans, and Plus for life and Pro for life are one-time purchases. What each plan includes is on the Pricing page and in the app.
Billed by Apple
- Every purchase is made through the App Store and charged to your Apple Account when you confirm it. Apple's terms and policies apply to the payment.
- The price is shown in the app, in your currency, before you confirm. Prices can differ between countries and include any taxes Apple collects.
Subscriptions renew automatically
- Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancel or change your plan in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. In Squawk, Settings → Plan → Manage subscription takes you there. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Deleting the app or your Squawk data does not cancel a subscription. Only cancelling in Settings does.
Free trials
Yearly plans start with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the yearly price is charged and the plan renews each year. Apple decides who is eligible for a trial, and any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
Lifetime purchases
Plus for life and Pro for life are paid once and never renew. They unlock that plan's features for as long as we offer Squawk and that plan. Restore them on another iPhone with the same Apple Account (Settings → Plan → Restore purchases).
Price and plan changes
We may change prices. Apple tells subscribers about a price increase before it applies and, where its rules require, asks for your agreement first; you can cancel before it takes effect. We may also add, change or move features between plans. If we take away a substantial part of a paid plan, we'll tell you in the app before it happens.
Refunds
Apple handles refunds under its own policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We never receive your payment details and can't refund an App Store purchase ourselves. This doesn't limit any right to a refund you have under the law where you live.
Family Pro
- Family Pro gives everything in Pro to the person who buys it and up to 5 others they invite. It uses Squawk's own invites, not Apple's Family Sharing.
- The buyer invites people by handle or with a one-use link that expires after 14 days, and can remove anyone. Removal ends that person's access at once.
- A person can be in one family at a time. Someone who leaves or is removed can rejoin the same family after 30 days.
- Members' access depends on the buyer's plan: if it ends, so does theirs, until it's renewed. A member's own separate subscription is theirs to keep or cancel; we never cancel it for them.
Referral rewards
Your invite code and link are in Settings → Plan → Invite friends. When a new account claims your code and then buys its first monthly plan, you earn 7 days of Squawk:
- Plus if you're on Free; your own plan if you pay monthly or yearly, added after your paid period; Pro if you have Plus for life.
- The reward is granted 7 days after the purchase, and not at all if that purchase is refunded in the meantime.
- Free trials, promotional grants, yearly plans and lifetime purchases don't earn a reward. Each account can claim one code, only while it is new, and never its own.
- Rewards are free time in the app. They have no cash value and can't be sold, transferred or exchanged.
We may refuse or remove rewards earned through fake or duplicate accounts, self-referral, spam or anything else that games the programme. We may change or end the programme; rewards already granted stay yours.
Acceptable use
Use Squawk lawfully and with respect for other people. In particular, don't:
- use Squawk to stalk, harass or track a person without their knowledge, or share someone else's travel without their permission;
- impersonate anyone, or post anything unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit or infringing in your profile or cover photo;
- scrape, bulk-download, resell or republish Squawk's data, or build a competing database from it;
- get round plan limits, share paid access outside Family Pro, or use bots or automated access;
- probe, overload or interfere with Squawk's servers, or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it;
- use Squawk in breach of export or sanctions laws.
Spotters chat
Every airport in Squawk has a public chat for spotters. Your messages there are public to everyone viewing that airport's chat, and are kept for 7 days. Before your first post you agree to the chat rules: no harassment, hate, sexual content, spam or personal information, yours or anyone else's.
Anyone can report a message, and you can block people so you no longer see theirs. We review reports, remove messages that break these terms or the chat rules, and ban the accounts that post them from the chat. We may do so without warning. Apart from an automatic word and link filter, we don't check messages before they appear, so report anything that shouldn't be there.
Community spotting spots
You can add places to watch aircraft from to an airport's spotting map. Add only places the public may stand: nothing airside, nothing on private land without the owner's permission, nowhere that needs a pass. Write in your own words and use your own photo; don't copy spotting guides, and keep people's faces and number plates out of the picture.
We check every spot before anyone else sees it, and it shows with your handle. Anyone can report a spot; one reported by three people comes off the map until we review it. We may turn down or remove any spot, and stop an account adding more, without warning. A spot is a description, not a promise: check access, parking and local rules yourself before you go.
Your content
Your flight log, profile, profile photo, cover photo and the spotting spots you add are yours. To run Squawk you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy and display them only as the app needs: to sync them to your devices, show your profile to your friends as your sharing settings allow, show your first name and shared flights on the Live Share and pickup pages you create, and show the spots we approve, with their photos, to everyone viewing that airport. The licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies that someone else has already received (a link preview in their Messages, say).
Only upload photos you have the right to use. We may remove content, or a handle, that breaks these terms.
Flight information is for information only
Squawk is not for operational, navigational or safety use. Don't use it to fly, dispatch, or make decisions where someone's safety depends on it.
- Times, gates, terminals, statuses, positions and routes come from third parties and from public records. They can be late, incomplete or wrong.
- Delay forecasts, connection risk and “when to leave” times are Squawk's own estimates, and the app marks them as estimates. They are not promises.
- Live positions come from a volunteer receiver network: an aircraft can be missing, delayed on the map or shown in the wrong place.
- Entry rules, rebooking options and Squawky's answers are guidance. Squawk doesn't book flights.
Always check with your airline and airport, and the official sources for entry rules, before you rely on anything Squawk shows. We aren't responsible for a missed flight, connection or pickup that results from relying on Squawk.
Third-party data and credits
Squawk is built on other people's work, used under these terms. Their data stays theirs, and their licences apply to it.

Flight schedules and status come from commercial flight-data providers, US delay records from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and past flights elsewhere from the public records credited above. Maps are Apple's. Airline, airport and brand names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify them; Squawk isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Squawk's own work
The app, thesquawkapp.com, the Squawk name and the yellow-tile logo belong to Squawk. These terms don't give you any right to them beyond using Squawk as described here.
Changes to Squawk
Squawk is in beta and changes often. We may add, change or remove features, and we may pause or stop the service. If we stop it for good, we'll give reasonable notice in the app where we can, so you can save a copy of your flight log first.
Disclaimers
As far as the law allows, Squawk is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted or error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost flights, connections, bookings, travel costs, profits or data, arising from your use of Squawk. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for Squawk in the 12 months before it arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Ending your use of Squawk
You can stop using Squawk at any time, and delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account), as the privacy policy explains. Remember to cancel any subscription in Settings: deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first. The sections on flight information, credits, disclaimers, liability and governing law continue after your use ends.
Governing law and disputes
To be confirmed: the law that governs these terms, and the courts that hear disputes, will be named here before this draft becomes final.
If you're a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in its courts. Before going to court, please write to us: most problems are quicker to fix by talking.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Squawk changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it applies. If you keep using Squawk after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, stop using Squawk and cancel any subscription.
Apple
- These terms are between you and Squawk, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Squawk or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Squawk.
- If Squawk fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation.
- Apple isn't responsible for claims about Squawk, including product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims. We are, as far as these terms and the law say.
- You confirm you aren't in a country under a US government embargo and aren't on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
