Squawk vs TripIt

TripIt files the bookings. Squawk flies the trip with you.

TripIt turns confirmation emails into one tidy itinerary. Squawk is built for the travel day itself: live times and gates on the free plan, delay forecasts, terminal maps, the way into town and a passport of every trip you've flown.

Squawk

The whole trip in one app: your flights, the airports, the way into town and every trip you've flown.

TripIt

TripIt Pro, which flight alerts need

The short answer

Squawk or TripIt?

  • Squawk is for you if

    • You want live times, gates and terminals for your flights free, where TripIt needs Pro for any flight status
    • You want delay forecasts and to see where your plane is coming from, which TripIt doesn't do
    • You want the airport covered: terminal maps, lounges, and trains, buses and ride apps into town
    • You want every flight kept: a flight log, a passport stamped for every country and a year card
    • You want a live map of every plane in the sky
  • TripIt still makes sense if

    • You want hotels, cars, trains and dinners in one itinerary, added from your inbox
    • You want fare-refund, seat and points trackers
    • You use Android, a Mac or the web, or your employer gives you TripIt Pro

Fair's fair

Where TripIt shines.

  • Every booking, not just flights

Hotels, cars, rail, ferries, restaurants and events land in one itinerary, free, from forwarded emails or a connected inbox, whichever site you booked on.

  • Trackers for the money side

TripIt Pro watches for fare drops you could claim back, better seats, and your points across more than 150 loyalty programmes.

  • Everywhere you are

iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android and the web, with sharing for family, colleagues and travel arrangers.

Switching

Bringing your TripIt flights.

  1. On tripit.com, open Trips and choose a trip.
  2. Open More Options and choose Export trip to calendar, then save the .ics file to Files.
  3. In Squawk, open Settings, tap Import from another app and choose the file. Each trip is its own file.

Squawk keeps the flights from the file and leaves hotels and cars out. Many people keep TripIt for bookings and use Squawk on the day.

Questions

Squawk and TripIt.

Is Squawk a TripIt alternative?

For flights and airports, yes: live times, gates and terminals are free on Squawk, where TripIt's flight monitoring needs Pro. For hotels, cars and the rest of an itinerary, TripIt does what Squawk doesn't try to, and the two work well together.

Can I move my TripIt flights into Squawk?

Yes. Export a trip from tripit.com as a calendar file and import it in Squawk's Settings. The flights come across; hotels and cars stay in TripIt.

Do I need to pay for live flight status?

Not on Squawk: live times, gates and terminals for your flights are on the free plan. On TripIt, flight monitoring is part of TripIt Pro and starts 72 hours before departure.

Is Squawk on Android?

No. Squawk is an iPhone app; TripIt is on Android and the web as well.
